At the Author’s Afternoon with Sudha Murty

January 5, 2015, Kolkata: Last Tuesday (Dec 30) evening, I hosted a small dinner party at the English Pub at The Conclave.

With Shoojit Sircar and Toni

Earlier it used to be a conference room which was converted into a pub. It is, undoubtedly, a very cosy place for a get-together. Almost all the guests at the dinner were there at the English Pub for the first time and everyone enjoyed the ambience.

I had a quiet evening at home on New Year’s eve (Dec 31st) and on Friday, January 2nd met Sanatan Dina and a few other friends at Flurys.

I missed the premiere of Arindam Sil’s new film Ebar Shabor at Nandan as there some were prior meetings to be attended.

With Sudha Murty

On January 3 (Saturday) 2015 there was another of the Author’s Afternoon series in which Ms Sudha Murty was the guest author. Sudha Murty, who is the wife of Narayana Murty, Infosys, is a social worker and the chairperson of Infosys Foundation.

She is an amazing versatile woman of many talents. Healthcare, education, empowerment of women are topics closer to her heart. She is a movie buff and a cineaste.

A great social worker and conversationist, Sudha Murty is also a qualified engineer and the author of many books, an academician and a philanthropist who has also acted in a Maratha and a Kannada film. She was the first female engineer at Telco. Her list of achievements and milestones is a never ending story that greatly inspires us.

This episode of the Author’s Afternoon at The Taj Bengal simply breezed through and the audience were spellbound by her wit, humour and deep thinking. It was a great session.

In the evening I went to the wedding reception of Dolly Basu’s youngest daughter, Doel. Today evening I plan to go to the ITC to attend the Calcutta Times Food Guide Award and tomorrow I shall leave for Gujarat.
